===Earliest results=== In 1713, a letter attributed to Charles Waldegrave, an active [[Jacobitism|Jacobite]] and uncle to British diplomat [[James Waldegrave, 1st Earl Waldegrave|James Waldegrave]], analyzed a game called "[[le her]]".
