Within the [[subdivisions of Russia#Administrative divisions|framework of administrative divisions]], Gdov serves as the [[administrative center]] of [[Gdovsky District]],<ref name="OKATO">{{OKATO reference|58 208}}</ref> to which it is directly subordinate.<ref name="Incorp">Law #833-oz stipulates that the borders of the administrative districts are identical to the borders of the municipal districts.
