==High Commissioner of Palestine== The next year, he became [[High Commissioners of Palestine|High Commissioner]] of the [[Mandatory Palestine|British Mandate of Palestine]].<ref>{{Cite book |last=Kessler |first=Oren |title=Palestine 1936: The Great Revolt and the Roots of the Middle East Conflict |date=2023 |publisher=Rowman & Littlefield |isbn=978-1-5381-4880-8 |location=Lanham MD |pages=xiv, 133}}</ref> In 1942, he was blamed for sending at least 768 Jewish refugees aboard [[Struma disaster|MV ''Struma'']] to their deaths. During his tenure, MacMichael was the target of seven unsuccessful assassination attempts, mainly by the [[Lehi (militant group)|Lehi Group]] (the [[Avraham Stern|Stern]] Gang).
