==Educational Technology Allowance == In 2008, the [[Brown ministry|Gordon Brown administration]] announced the Β£300 million ''Educational Technology Allowance'' incentive. The program granted up to Β£700 to low-income households with schooling children who had no internet access at home. The policy was aimed towards helping approximately 1.4 million children who did not have access to a broadband connection at home.<ref name=ETA>{{cite web|last=Davidson|first=Darren|title=Gordon Brown promises internet connection for all children|url=http://www.prweek.com/uk/news/847902/Gordon-Brown-promises-internet-connection-children/|work=PR Week|access-date=7 February 2013}}</ref> The program was piloted in two local authority areas in 2010 and was completely rolled out across England in 2011. The funding for the Educational Technology Allowance came from the Children's and Schools budget. The money could be used by families to pay for computer equipment, technical support and cabling in the street, if necessary.<ref name=pcadvisor-20080923>{{cite news |url=http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=104715 |title=PM plans Β£300m 'broadband for all' scheme |magazine=PC Advisor |date=23 September 2008 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080924092006/http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=104715 |archive-date=24 September 2008}}</ref> The ''Educational Technology Allowance'' was not offered in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
