A third edition, ''Imperium, 3rd Millennium'', was published in 2001 by Avalanche Press.<ref>{{cite web |title=Imperium: 3rd Millennium |url=https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2106/imperium-3rd-millennium |website=BoardGameGeek |publisher=BoardGameGeek LLC |access-date=7 March 2021}}</ref> This new release had new graphics and changed rules. The game was nominated for four [[Origins Award]]s in 2002.
