Infective endocarditis may also be classified as ''culture-positive'' or ''culture-negative''. Some organisms are said to be ''[[Growth medium|fastidious]]'' because they have demanding growth requirements. Some examples include pathogens like ''[[Aspergillus]]'' species, ''[[Brucella]]'' species, ''[[Coxiella burnetii]]'', ''[[Chlamydia (bacterium)|Chlamydia]]'' species.
