Structures with the same number of frontier orbitals are isolobal to one another. For example, the methane with two hydrogen atoms removed, CH<sub>2</sub> is isolobal to a d<sup>8</sup> ML<sub>4</sub> complex formed from an octahedral starting complex (Figure 4).
