==Financial statistics== Over US$54 billion worth of [[Iraq]]i oil was sold on the world market. About US$46 billion of this was intended to provide for the [[Humanitarianism|humanitarian]] needs of the Iraqi people such as food and [[medicine]], given the context of international [[economic sanctions]]. A considerable portion was spent on [[Gulf War]] reparations paid through a compensation fund (25% starting December 2000). UN administrative and operational costs for the programme was US$1.2 billion; the cost of the [[United Nations Special Commission on Iraq|weapons inspection programme]] was also paid from these funds.
