== Taxonomy == The red-eared slider belongs to the [[Order (biology)|order]] [[Testudines]], which contains about 250 turtle species. It is a subspecies of ''[[Trachemys scripta]]''. It was previously classified under the name ''Chrysemys scripta elegans''.
