== Causes == The cause of the majority of spinal tumors is currently not known. Primary spinal tumors are associated with a few [[Syndrome|genetic syndromes]].<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":2" /> [[Neurofibroma]]s are associated with neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1).<ref name=":0" /> Meningiomas and [[schwannoma]]s are associated with neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2).<ref name=":0" /> Intramedullary [[hemangioblastoma]]s can be seen in patients with von Hippel-Lindau disease.<ref name=":2" /> Spinal cord [[lymphoma]]s are commonly seen in patients with suppressed immune systems.<ref name=":2" /> The majority of extradural tumors are due to metastasis, most commonly from breast, prostate, lung, and kidney cancer.<ref name=":1" />
