==Governance== The town is part of the [[Avondale and Stonehouse (ward)|Avondale and Stonehouse]] ward of the South Lanarkshire [[Subdivisions of Scotland|council area]]. Before 1996, it was part of the [[Strathclyde]] region, with a district council in [[East Kilbride (district)|East Kilbride]].
