==Military career== McCoy enlisted as a soldier in the [[United States Army|U.S. Army]] and served in the [[United States Cavalry|cavalry]] during [[World War I]] (although he did not serve in combat nor overseas).<ref name=":0" /><ref>McCoy, T. Bison Books. {{ISBN|0-8032-8155-2}}.</ref> He served again in [[World War II]] in Europe, rising to the rank of [[Colonel (United States)|colonel]] with the [[United States Army Air Corps|Army Air Corps]] and [[United States Army Air Forces|Army Air Forces]]. He also served as [[adjutant general]] of Wyoming between the wars with the [[Brevet (military)|brevet rank]] of [[brigadier general]].
