== Governance == Toton was historically a [[Township (England)|township]] in the parish of [[Attenborough, Nottinghamshire|Attenborough]]. It became a [[civil parish]] in 1866.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://visionofbritain.org.uk/place/7798|title=History of Toton, in Broxtowe and Nottinghamshire|publisher=A Vision of Britain through Time|accessdate=6 August 2023}}</ref> In 1931 the parish had a population of 644.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10271010/cube/TOT_POP|title=Population statistics Toton Tn/CP through time|publisher=[[A Vision of Britain through Time]]|accessdate=6 August 2023}}</ref> On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged into [[Beeston and Stapleford]] urban district.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10271010|title=Relationships and changes Toton Tn/CP through time|publisher=A Vision of Britain through Time|accessdate=6 August 2023}}</ref> Beeston and Stapleford Urban District was abolished in 1974 to become part of Broxtowe.
