==Range== Varroa mites originally only occurred in Asia on the [[Asian honey bee]], but this species has been introduced to many other countries on several continents, resulting in disastrous infestations of European honey bees.<ref>[http://www.columbia.edu/itc/cerc/danoff-burg/invasion_bio/inv_spp_summ/varroa_destructor.html Invasion Biology Introduction: ''Varroa'' mites] University of Columbia. Accessed 26 April 2017</ref> Introduction data prior to 2000 is unclear due to confusion with ''V. jacobsoni''. By 2020, ''V. destructor'' was confirmed to be present throughout North America (excluding Greenland), South America, most of Europe and Asia, and portions of Africa. The species was not present in Australia as well as Oman, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Malawi. It was suspected to not be present in Sudan and Somalia.<ref>{{cite web |title=Pathogens and pests |url=https://worldhoneybeehealth.com/pathogens-and-pests/ |access-date=27 August 2023 |website=worldhoneybeehealth.com}}</ref><ref>{{cite journal |last1=Boncristiani |first1=Humberto |last2=Ellis |first2=James D. |last3=Bustamante |first3=Tomas |last4=Graham |first4=Jason |last5=Jack |first5=Cameron |last6=Kimmel |first6=Chase B. |last7=Mortensen |first7=Ashley |last8=Schmehl |first8=Daniel R. |title=World Honey Bee Health: The Global Distribution of Western Honey Bee ( Apis mellifera L.)
