The first recorded instance of a professional goaltender scoring a goal occurred on February 21, 1971, in the CHL. In a game between the [[Oklahoma City Blazers (1965–77)|Oklahoma City Blazers]] and the [[Kansas City Blues (ice hockey)|Kansas City Blues]], the Oklahoma City Blazers were trailing 2-1 and decided to pull their goaltender.
