==Nutrient absorption==

Researchers studying [[maize]] seedlings found that calcium absorption was greatest in the [[Apical meristem|apical]] root segment, and potassium at the base of the root. Along other root segments absorption was similar. Absorbed potassium is transported to the root tip, and to a lesser extent other parts of the root, then also to the shoot and grain. Researchers found that partial deficiencies of K or P did not change the [[fatty acid]] composition of [[phosphatidyl choline]] in ''[[Brassica napus L.]]'' plants.
