Each ''Viking'' lander carried a tiny dot of microfilm containing the names of several thousand people who had worked on the mission.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.planetary.org/outreach/visions-of-mars-then-and-now|title=Visions of Mars: Then and Now|website=The Planetary Society}}</ref> Several earlier space probes had carried message artifacts, such as the [[Pioneer plaque]] and the [[Voyager Golden Record]]. Later probes also carried memorials or lists of names, such as the [[Perseverance (rover)|''Perseverance'']] rover which recognizes the almost 11 million people who [[Perseverance (rover)#Commemorative artifacts|signed up to include their names]] on the mission.
