===Historic houses=== [[File:The Ickleton Lion - geograph.org.uk - 791908.jpg|thumb|The Ickleton Lion, the only pub still trading in the village]] The village prospered in the 15th and 16th centuries.<ref name=VCH/> A number of buildings survive from that time: Mowbrays in Church Street has already been noted (see ''Lesser estates'', above). Padcot in Abbey Street is another Grade II* listed building dating from about 1500.<ref name=EH-Mowbrays/><ref name=EH-Padcot>{{NHLE |num= 1330956 |desc=Padcot |date=22 November 1967 |accessdate=1 September 2013}}</ref> It is a timber-framed building, originally one house and later divided into two cottages.<ref name=EH-Padcot/> It was built as a [[hall house]], but early in the 17th century a floor was inserted in part of the house.<ref name=EH-Padcot/> The house has a cross wing with a [[crown post]] roof.<ref name=EH-Padcot/>
