=== Electrical system === In principle, a diesel engine does not require any sort of electrical system. However, most modern diesel engines are equipped with an electrical fuel pump, and an electronic engine control unit. However, there is no high-voltage electrical ignition system present in a diesel engine. This eliminates a source of [[Electromagnetic interference|radio frequency emissions]] (which can interfere with navigation and communication equipment), which is why only diesel-powered vehicles are allowed in some parts of the American [[National Radio Quiet Zone]].<ref name="NRAO" />
