[[Life support system]]s must be capable of supporting human life for weeks, months or even years. A breathable atmosphere of at least {{cvt|35|kPa}} must be maintained, with adequate amounts of oxygen, nitrogen, and controlled levels of carbon dioxide, trace gases and water vapor.
