===Unisys case===
In the late 1990s, Unisys claimed to have granted royalty free licenses to hundreds of [[Nonprofit organization|not-for-profit]] organizations that used the patented [[LZW]] compression method and, by extension, the [[Graphics Interchange Format|GIF]] image format.
