=== Albumins === {{Main|Serum albumin}} Serum albumins are the most common plasma proteins, and they are responsible for maintaining the osmotic pressure of the blood. Without [[albumin]]s, the consistency of blood would be closer to that of water. The increased viscosity of blood prevents fluid from entering the bloodstream from outside the capillaries. Albumins are produced in the liver, assuming the absence of a hepatocellular deficiency.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.hepatitis.va.gov/hcv/patient/diagnosis/labtests-albumin.asp|title=Albumin: Liver Function Test - Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease | publisher = U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs |access-date=March 15, 2021|archive-date=September 13, 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210913112052/https://www.hepatitis.va.gov/hcv/patient/diagnosis/labtests-albumin.asp|url-status=live}}</ref>
