Four years later, on June 17, 1921, Lúcia dos Santos was admitted at the age of 14 as a boarder to the school of the Sisters of Saint Dorothy in Vilar, near the city of [[Porto]]. According to a document she wrote, recorded in her book “[[Fatima in Lucia's Own Words|Fatima in Lucia’s Own Words]]”, Lúcia later reported that on 10 December 1925, the Virgin Mary appeared to her at the Dorothean convent in [[Pontevedra]], and by her side on a luminous cloud was the [[Christ Child|Child Jesus]].<ref>{{Cite web |last=CNA |title=Priest laments state of apparition site of Our Lady of Fatima in Spain |url=https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/252738/priest-laments-state-of-apparition-site-of-our-lady-of-fatima-in-spain |access-date=2025-04-07 |website=Catholic News Agency |language=en}}</ref> According to Lúcia, Mary requested the institution of the Devotion of the Five First Saturdays in reparation to her Immaculate Heart and attached a personal promise to the devotion:<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":1" /><blockquote>Look, my daughter, at my Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me at very moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console me and say that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall [[Sacrament of Penance|confess]], receive [[Eucharist|Holy Communion]], recite five decades of the [[Rosary]], and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen [[Mysteries of the Rosary|mysteries]] of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to Me.<ref name=":6">{{Cite web |title=Shrine of Fatima {{!}} Narrative of the Apparitions |url=https://www.fatima.pt/en/pages/narrative-of-the-apparitions- |access-date=2025-04-07 |website=Santuário de Fátima |language=en}}</ref><ref name=":2" /></blockquote>On February 15, 1926, Lúcia reported an encounter while emptying a garbage can outside the garden, where she saw a child she thought she recognized. After speaking with the child, the child asked her: "Have you revealed to the world what the Heavenly Mother has asked you ?".
