In his paper "''Versuche über Pflanzenhybriden''" ("[[Experiments on Plant Hybridization]]"), presented in 1865 to the ''Naturforschender Verein'' (Society for Research in Nature) in [[Brno]], Mendel traced the inheritance patterns of certain traits in pea plants and described them mathematically.
