== Adult life ==
Throughout his life, Walker remained an American citizen.{{sfn|Millman|1993|p=19}} For a period of five years from 1859 until 1864, he lived in Windsor in a residence named the "Cottage"{{sfn|Millman|1993|p=19}} on land that was part of the Labadie holdings which Walker originally purchased.{{sfn|Fraser|1992|p=7}} The "Cottage", a large home for the period, had a third story as well as a large verandah.{{sfn|Fraser|1992|p=7}}
