===Draft and minor leagues=== As a 17-year-old, the [[Cincinnati Reds]] selected Bench in the second round, 36th overall, of the [[1965 Major League Baseball draft|1965 amateur draft]]. He played for the minor-league [[Buffalo Bisons (1886β1970)|Buffalo Bisons]] in the 1966 and 1967 seasons.
