The ''president'' and ''vice president'' of the Legislative Yuan are elected by the 113 legislators during a preparatory session in the beginning of their 4-year terms. The President is responsible for appointing the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General of the Legislative Yuan, as well as other legislative staff, who are described as the Administrative Unit. The Vice President serves in place during the absence of the President.
