The subfamily [[Agroecomyrmecinae]] represents two extant genera and two fossil genera, once widespread in both hemispheres during the early [[Tertiary]].<ref name="AntCat_Agroecomyrmecinae">{{AntCat|430014|Agroecomyrmecinae|2015|accessdate=5 November 2015}}</ref><ref name="Brown_Kempf_1968">{{cite journal |last1=Brown |first1=W.
