====[[New South Wales]]==== {{see also|local government in New South Wales}} *[[Local Government Act 1906 (New South Wales)]] *[[Local Government Act 1919 (New South Wales)]] *[[Local Government Act 1993 (New South Wales)]][http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/lga1993182/] Local government in NSW was first established by the ''Local Government (Shires) Act 1905 (NSW)'' which enabled the state governor to divide the state into shires and ridings.{{sfn|Twomey|2004|p=33}} This was consolidated by the 1906 ''Act'', and further consolidated by the 1919 one, which also brought the [[City of Sydney]] under its umbrella, that had theretofore been controlled by the ''Sydney City Incorporation Act 1842 (NSW)''.{{sfn|Twomey|2004|p=33}} The 1993 ''Act'' repealed the earlier ones and replaced them.{{sfn|Twomey|2004|p=33}}
