Molnar originally assigned ''Muttaburrasaurus'' to the [[Iguanodontidae]]. Later authors suggested more [[basal (phylogenetics)|basal]] euornithopod groups such as the [[Camptosauridae]], [[Dryosauridae]], or [[Hypsilophodont]]idae.
