== Listing in astronomical catalogues ==
After being logged as the first object in the [[Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars|General Catalogue]], the galaxy is also the first object to be listed in the catalogue's successor, the [[New General Catalogue]].<ref name="ned">{{cite web
