===The Satavahana period===
This area was a part of the [[Satavahana Dynasty|Satavahana Empire]] from the 2nd to the 4th centuries CE, after which, it was annexed into the [[Gupta Empire]] during the reign of the Emperor [[Samudragupta]]. There is some historical evidence for Padi rule. There is no record of this area until the 9th century CE, when the Kalachuri kingdom was established.
