===1983 season=== Taube held fast to David Dixon's original blueprint for the USFL, heavily marketing the team in the Bay Area while keeping tight controls on spending (including player salaries). Led by the league's 2nd ranked passer QB Fred Besana, WR Gordon Banks, and ex-Raiders HB Arthur Whittington and TE Raymond Chester, the Invaders finished with 9β9 record. However, in an extremely weak Pacific Division, this was enough to garner them the division title. In the playoffs, despite a valiant effort, they were overrun by the eventual league champion Michigan Panthers, 37β21 in front of 60,237 rabid fans in the Pontiac Silverdome (the largest crowd for any USFL game in the 1983 season). ====1983 schedule and results==== {| class="wikitable" style="text-align:center" !style=""| Week !style=""| Day !style=""| Date !style=""| Opponent !style=""| Result !style=""| Record !style=""| TV !style=""| Venue !style=""| Attendance |- ! colspan="9" style=""|Regular season |-style="background:#cfc" ! 1 | Sunday | March 6 | at Arizona Wranglers | W 24β0 | 1β0 | | Sun Devil Stadium | 45,167 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 2 | Sunday | March 13 | Birmingham Stallions | L 14β20 (OT) | 1β1 | | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 47,344 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 3 | Saturday | March 19 | at Michigan Panthers | W 33β27 | 2β1 | ESPN | Pontiac Silverdome | 28,952 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 4 | Monday | March 28 | at Denver Gold | L 12β22 | 2β2 | ESPN | Mile High Stadium | 38,720 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 5 | Sunday | April 3 | at Los Angeles Express | L 7β10 | 2β3 | | Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum | 23,538 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 6 | Sunday | April 10 | at Boston Breakers | W 26β7 | 3β3 | ABC | Nickerson Field | 7,984 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 7 | Saturday | April 16 | Philadelphia Stars | L 7β17 | 3β4 | ESPN | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 34,901 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 8 | Sunday | April 24 | at Birmingham Stallions | L 9β21 | 3β5 | | Legion Field | 18,500 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 9 | Monday | May 2 | Arizona Wranglers | W 34β20 | 4β5 | ESPN | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 27,460 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 10 | Sunday | May 8 | Tampa Bay Bandits | L 10β17 | 4β6 | ABC | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 26,989 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 11 | Monday | May 16 | Washington Federals | W 34β27 | 5β6 | | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 25,900 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 12 | Saturday | May 21 | at Tampa Bay Bandits | L 9β29 | 5β7 | ESPN | Tampa Stadium | 43,389 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 13 | Sunday | May 29 | Los Angeles Express | W 20β10 | 6β7 | | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 28,967 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 14 | Saturday | June 4 | New Jersey Generals | W 34β21 | 7β7 | ESPN | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 32,908 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 15 | Monday | June 13 | Denver Gold | W 16β10 | 8β7 | ESPN | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 26,840 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 16 | Monday | June 20 | at Philadelphia Stars | L 6β12 | 8β8 | ESPN | Veterans Stadium | 16,933 |-style="background:#cfc" ! 17 | Saturday | June 25 | Boston Breakers | W 17β16 | 9β8 | ESPN | Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum | 30,396 |-style="background:#fcc" ! 18 | Sunday | July 3 | at Chicago Blitz | L 7β31 | 9β9 | | Soldier Field | 12,346 |- style="text-align:center;" ! colspan="9" style=""|Playoffs |-style="background:#fcc" !
