Old Saybrook averages about 90 days annually with freeze (temperatures of 32 Β°F/0 Β°C) β about the same as Baltimore, Maryland, or Albuquerque, New Mexico, for example. As such, [[Magnolia grandiflora|southern magnolias]], [[Rhapidophyllum|needle palms]], [[windmill palm]]s, [[Pinus taeda|loblolly pines]], and [[Lagerstroemia indica|crape myrtles]] are grown in private and public gardens.
