After his death, Photius began to be venerated as saint in environs of Constantinople. His name features in a manuscript of the Typicon of the Great Church of Constantinople dated to the middle of the tenth century, where he is referred to a saint with a day of commemoration of February 6.<ref>{{Cite book |title=Le Typicon de la Grande Église |publisher=[[Pontifical Oriental Institute]] |date=1962 |editor-last=Mateos |editor-first=Juan |volume=1 |location=Rome |pages=228–229}}</ref> According to [[Francis Dvornik]], Photius I must have been venerated as a saint in the second half of the tenth century at the very latest.{{sfn|Dvornik|1948|p=389}}
