=== Broadway === Sheldon began writing [[musical theatre|musicals]] for the Broadway stage while continuing to write screenplays for both [[Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer|MGM Studios]] and [[Paramount Pictures]]. He earned a reputation as a prolific writer; for example, at one time, [[Ben Roberts (writer)|Ben Roberts]] and he had three musicals on Broadway - a rewritten ''[[The Merry Widow]]'', ''[[Jackpot (musical)|Jackpot]]'', and ''Dream with Music''.<ref name="AP Obit" /> Sheldon received a [[Tony Award]] in 1959 for his musical ''[[Redhead (musical)|Redhead]]'', starring [[Gwen Verdon]].<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.mtishows.com/people/sidney-sheldon|title=Sidney Sheldon|website=Music Theatre International|language=en|access-date=2019-05-22}}</ref> His other stage plays include ''Alice in Arms'', ''The King of New York'', ''The Judge'', and ''Roman Candle''.
