The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States census|racial makeup]] of Sutter was 2,503 (86.2%) White, (0.6%) African American, (0.9%) Native American, 30 (1.0%) Asian, 1 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 160 (5.5%) from other races, and 140 (4.8%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 410 persons (14.1%). The Census reported that 2,904 people (100% of the population) lived in households, 0 (0%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0 (0%) were institutionalized.
