In the [[Tanoan language]] of [[Taos language|Taos]] ([[Tiwa languages|Northern Tiwa]]), the pueblo is referred to as "the village" in either ''tə̂otho'' "in the village" (''tə̂o-'' "village" + ''-tho'' "in") or ''tə̂obo'' "to/toward the village" (''tə̂o-'' "village" + ''-bo'' "to, toward").
