===Ipswich Town=== Butcher made his debut for [[Ipswich Town F.C.|Ipswich Town]] against [[Everton F.C.|Everton]] in the First Division on 15 April 1978 and over the next eight seasons would establish himself as the club's top central defender, combining leadership with great aerial ability and courage. This was soon noticed by England manager [[Ron Greenwood]] who gave him his debut in a friendly against [[Australia men's national soccer team|Australia]] in 1980.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.sporting-heroes.net/football/ipswich-town-fc/terry-butcher-10738/league-appearances_a13309/ |title=Terry Butcher - Ipswich Town FC |work=Sporting-heroes.net |access-date=21 August 2010}}</ref> In 1981, Butcher was part of the Ipswich side that won the [[1981 UEFA Cup Final|UEFA Cup]] under [[Bobby Robson]] and came close to their first [[Football League|League]] title since 1962, though they were pipped at the post by [[Aston Villa F.C.|Aston Villa]]. Butcher was named [[Ipswich Town F.C.
