The '''hook length''' of a box ''s'' is the number of boxes to the right of ''s'' or below ''s'' in English notation, including the box ''s'' itself; in other words, the hook length is ''a''<sub>λ</sub>(''s'') + ''l''<sub>λ</sub>(''s'') + 1.
