==In political science== In an early 1965 study, political systems around the world are examined via factor analysis to construct related theoretical models and research, compare political systems, and create typological categories.<ref name="gregg1965">{{Cite journal|last1=Gregg|first1=Phillip M.|last2=Banks|first2=Arthur S.|date=1965|title=Dimensions of political systems: Factor analysis of a cross-polity survey|url=|journal=American Political Science Review|series=|language=en|volume=59|issue=3|pages=602β614|doi=10.2307/1953171|jstor=1953171 |s2cid=145459216 |issn=}}</ref> For these purposes, in this study seven basic political dimensions are identified, which are related to a wide variety of political behaviour: these dimensions are Access, Differentiation, Consensus, Sectionalism, Legitimation, Interest, and Leadership Theory and Research. Other political scientists explore the measurement of internal political efficacy using four new questions added to the 1988 National Election Study. Factor analysis is here used to find that these items measure a single concept distinct from external efficacy and political trust, and that these four questions provided the best measure of internal political efficacy up to that point in time.<ref name="niemi1991">{{Cite journal|last1=Niemi|first1=Richard G.|last2=Craig|first2=Stephen C.|last3=Mattei|first3=Franco|date=December 1991|title=Measuring Internal Political Efficacy in the 1988 National Election Study|url=https://doi.org/10.2307/1963953|journal=American Political Science Review|series=|language=en|volume=85|issue=4|pages=1407β1413|doi=10.2307/1963953|jstor=1963953 |s2cid=146641381 |issn=0003-0554|url-access=subscription}}</ref>
