===== Initial rejection of the Initiative for Open Citations =====
Among the major academic publishers, Elsevier alone declined to join the [[Initiative for Open Citations]]. In the context of the resignation of the ''Journal of Informetrics''{{'}} editorial board, the firm stated: "Elsevier invests significantly in citation extraction technology.
