Most keyboards sold in the US do not have an (engraved) {{keypress|AltGr}} key. However, if there is a right-hand {{keypress|Alt}} key it will act as {{keypress|AltGr}} if a layout using it is installed (conversely a foreign keyboard {{keypress|AltGr}} will act like the right-hand {{keypress|Alt}} if the standard US keyboard layout is installed).

Microsoft provides a [[US-International|US-International keyboard layout]] that uses {{keypress|AltGr}} (or right-hand {{keypress|Alt}} or {{keypress|Ctrl|Alt}}) key to produce more characters:

Other operating systems such as [[Linux]] and [[ChromeOS]] follow this layout but increase the repertoire of [[glyph]]s provided.
