The [[Bristol & Exeter Railway]] opened [[Cullompton railway station]] when the railway opened on 1 May 1844.<ref name="2nd BoC 2007 62"/> Around 1931 the lines were widened to provide two [[passing loop]]s and a new goods shed and waiting room were constructed.<ref>{{Citation | title =A daily Bovril is better than a week in bed | journal = British Railways Illustrated | volume = 22 | issue = 10 | pages = 442–443  | date =July 2013}}</ref> It [[Beeching Axe|closed to passengers]] on 5 October 1964,<ref name="2nd BoC 2007 62"/> the site now being used for the [[M5 motorway]] [[Cullompton services]]. ====Railway station reopening====
