In September 2018, Portman said he would support Trump's [[Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination|nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court]], saying, "The Brett Kavanaugh I know is a man of integrity and humility". In September 2020, Portman supported a vote on Trump's nominee to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy left by the [[death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg]] less than six weeks before the 2020 presidential election.
