===2018–present: Investigation into Stormy Daniels payment=== {{Main|Stormy Daniels–Donald Trump scandal}} On January 12, 2018, [[Michael Rothfeld]] and Joe Palazzolo reported in ''The Wall Street Journal'' that during the [[2016 United States presidential election|2016 presidential campaign]], then-candidate [[Donald Trump]]'s personal lawyer, [[Michael Cohen (lawyer)|Michael Cohen]] coordinated a $130,000 payment to [[Stormy Daniels]] for her silence regarding an alleged affair. In subsequent reports, the method of payment and many other details were extensively covered.
