==== Granule neurons ==== Granule neurons of the OB are axonless GABAergic interneurons which connect to the primary neurons of the OB. <ref name=":6" /> These neurons have a basal and apical dendrite. Studies find that approximately 30,000 neurons are produced daily in the adult mouse with 97% of them differentiating into OB granule neurons. When these cells originate in the adult OB, input synapses are developed at the proximal dendritic domain which do not have output synapses. This occurs prior to their ability to fire action potentials which contrasts to developmental granule OB neurons. Furthermore, it was found that survival and synaptic connectivity of newly formed granule neurons in the adult brain is dependent on activity in the OB. <ref name=":6" />
