===Line 2=== {{main|Cairo Metro Line 2}} Line 2 (red) is the second line of the Cairo Metro, first opening in 1996. The line is {{convert|21.6|km|mi|adj=}} long,<ref name="Line2">{{cite web |title=Line 2 |url=http://www.nat.org.eg/english/Line2.html |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190916110446/http://www.nat.org.eg/english/Line2.html |archive-date=16 September 2019 |access-date=2014-06-28 |publisher=National Authority for Tunnels}}</ref> of which {{convert|13|km|mi|}} are in tunnels. It serves 20 stations, of which 12 are underground.<ref name="Line2" /> It is mostly in the bored tunnel, with two exceptions: a short section at the northern end approaching Shubra El Kheima which is elevated, and a section just south of this by cut-and-cover.
