The name "Doraemon" can be roughly translated to "stray". Unusually, the name {{nihongo4|"Doraemon"|ドラえもん}} is written in a mixture of two Japanese scripts: [[Katakana]] ({{nihongo2|ドラ}}) and [[Hiragana]] ({{nihongo2|えもん}}).
