In 1994, he ran for [[Arkansas Attorney General]], challenging incumbent [[Winston Bryant]] in the Democratic primary. He defeated Republican nominee Betty Dicky, the [[Redfield, Arkansas|Redfield City Attorney]], 59%-41%.
